Knee Operation washup

I saw the surgeon for the post-op consultation. He said all went well, and showed me some cool photos. I am allowed to run and ride again now, monitoring pain, so I will ride this week and walk/jog next week to take it slow. The good news is that I should be right to race at BRW and almost certainly right to race 50km at Glasshouse in May. Fingers crossed.

Knee op

The knee operation went well yesterday. I am able to walk without crutches or braces and the pain isnt too bad (so far). I am hopeful that I wont be off training for too long, as I still have firm plans to do all three Glasshouse trails ultramarathons this year (

In all the arthroscopy was incident free and successful from the POV of the surgeon. Hopefully the knee has many good years left in it.

Running on broken bits

Ran home last night the 15km with Deon on the busted cartilege. No problems, although I felt fat and slow, and walked the bigger hills. The problems it causes seem random and hard to reproduce.

I am keen to run before the op to strengthen the legs and increase fitness before the (hopefully) short layoff post-op.

Surgery is on!

Feb 17th, 2009. I am under the knife in Mater Private Redlands. Going to have part of the meniscus removed. Walking out same day without brace or crutches says the surgeon . Sounds like a cinch...

Broken Knee-us Maximus

Late last year my knee started giving me trouble in an acute, what the hell just happened', kind of way.

After visits to Physio's, MRI machines and Sport Physicians I have a "Horizontal oblique tear in the posterior horn of my left medial meniscus" - or more commonly known as damaged cartilege.

I know what your all thinking - "You cant run ultra marathons and not expect that". Well sod-off. I can and do expect that. I really believe that this injury has been caused by non-running, but I am buggered if I can remember the incident. I had only 3 days off ofter the Toowoomba marathon (19-Oct-2008) and on my first run back (23-Oct) during a lunchtime run, it pulled up really sore. Sore in a way I have never been sore before. So I believe that it either happened during the mara, or on that first run back, or sometime in between. I dont think the 100km run in the month before was involved.

Anyway I am seeing the Knee Surgeon tomorrow, and I will report back. Fingers crossed, but it looks very likely that I will have an arthroscopy in the coming weeks.

Hey - there is still more to see, posts previous to the one above exist in the archives, available on the right hand column.
