Late last year my knee started giving me trouble in an acute, what the hell just happened', kind of way.
After visits to Physio's, MRI machines and Sport Physicians I have a "Horizontal oblique tear in the posterior horn of my left medial meniscus" - or more commonly known as damaged cartilege.
I know what your all thinking - "You cant run ultra marathons and not expect that". Well sod-off. I can and do expect that. I really believe that this injury has been caused by non-running, but I am buggered if I can remember the incident. I had only 3 days off ofter the Toowoomba marathon (19-Oct-2008) and on my first run back (23-Oct) during a lunchtime run, it pulled up really sore. Sore in a way I have never been sore before. So I believe that it either happened during the mara, or on that first run back, or sometime in between. I dont think the 100km run in the month before was involved.
Anyway I am seeing the Knee Surgeon tomorrow, and I will report back. Fingers crossed, but it looks very likely that I will have an arthroscopy in the coming weeks.
